With their mournful and wistful sound, bagpipes are like the Bjork of the musical instrument world: otherworldly and totally opinion-dividing. These haunting bagpipes set the tone at the Dior resort show, held in the gardens of Drummond Castle in Scotland. Maria Grazia Chiuri, the creative director of Dior, drew inspiration from the rich textiles and cultural history of Scotland for her Cruise 2025 collection.

Chiuri’s collection was a bold and defiant interpretation of Scottish fashion, moving beyond the punk associations and delving into the intricate world of traditional Scottish textiles. Tartans, cashmeres, tweeds, and Argyle patterns were reimagined in a modern and luxurious way. The collection featured classic Dior silhouettes, such as bar jackets and corsets, adorned with heathery plaid shawls and armorial details.

Embroideries of flowers and lace added a delicate touch to the collection, while black Jacobean velvet brought a sense of dark romance to the evening dresses. The accessories were equally impressive, with pearls suspended from leather chokers, studded leather crossbody bags, and edgy leather boots and gaiters. Chiuri’s collaboration with local designers and artisans added an authentic touch to the collection, showcasing the craftsmanship of Scottish tweeds, cashmeres, and ceremonial headwear.

Chiuri’s research and attention to detail were evident in every piece, reflecting her desire to explore the meaning behind her designs. The collection was a nod to Monsieur Dior’s charity fashion show in postwar Scotland, capturing the essence of relaxation and freedom in the aftermath of a tumultuous time.
